Ancient Aliens is a docuseries where mythology meets history. It explores a number of historical mysteries through ancient texts, legends, and archaeological artifacts, proposing that they are evidence that mankind has had interactions with extra-terrestrials.

The show welcomes a number of experts in a wide array of fields ranging from priests who believe that angels were ancient aliens to paranormal talk show hosts.
The base assumption around each episode is that extra-terrestrials gave ancient mankind the knowledge to accomplish major feats in architecture and technology.
Episodes, narrated by Robert Clotworthy, begin and end with rhetorical questions. Produced by Prometheus Entertainment, the series has aired on History and other A&E Networks since 2010.
The series is based on and inspired by the works of Erich von Däniken and Zecharia Sitchin, among other writers.
Due to COVID-19 disrupting production, the season ended after only 12 episodes, however only 10 episodes aired. The series continued with its sixteenth season in November 2020.[1][6] An eighteenth season began airing in January 2022.

Segments and highlights from all first season episodes, including the pilot, were edited into later episodes up to Season 12, so that guests who appeared in Season 1 ostensibly appear in later seasons, although footage of their interviews was re-used.
Prior to December 2012, several episodes explored facets of the 2012 Mayan doomsday prophecy.
